Limitations & Constraints

There are certain barriers to the further development of the design that cannot be overcome at the present time, such as technological or physical limits. We recognize the limits imposed upon us, and the constraints we have imposed upon ourselves (such as for monetary or security reasons):

  • Sensor Module
    1. The range of the system is limited by available technology. The number of Zigbee routers required depends on the range of each individual router.
    2. The badges are limited to relatively small batteries with corresponding life spans. Batteries will need to be replaced periodically.

  • Data Module
    1. The Data Controller's ability to update its clients and databases will be limited by the hardware used and the amount of resources that it must share with other processes.
    2. The Data Controller will be limited to queries preprogramed into the system and will not allow for clients to form their own SQL queries on the fly.
    3. The Data Controller's ability to update locations of users will be limited by speed and frequency that updates are given by the Sensor Controller module.
    4. Historical queries will be limited to data that is at least one day old.
    5. The Data Controller will only be able to provide data on the location of badges as reported by the Sensor Controller. Therefore, a person without a badge is invisible to the system, and a person wearing another person's badge appears as that person.

  • Interface Module
    1. The speed at which the Interface Controller processes commands is limited by the ability of server.
    2. The security of the interface depends on the technology implemented by the server.
    3. If the building is too large with too many rooms and simultaneous users, the real-time map layout may be less clear and more cluttered than it would be otherwise.
